Kuma-mura is located on the southern tip of Kumamoto Prefecture and on the middle of the Kumagawa course. Ths river is the second largest river of Kyushu. 88% of Kuma-mura consists of forest.
Kumagawa is running through the center of Kuma-mura flowing from east to west.
There are two mountains located near the village. Shiraiwayama has a height of 969 meters above sea level to the south.
In addition, there are mountains over 700 meters that discharge the out of the tributary streams into the Kumagawa.
The annual average temperature is 15 degrees celsius (highest was 36 degree celsius abd lowest was -6.4 degrees celsius). The difference between warm hours and cold are big and Kuma-mura maintains a continental climate.
The precipitation is comparatively high and over 2,300 millimeters in annually.
The main main industries of this area are agriculture and foresty.
